Energy Transition 370 km East of Perth and 220 km west of Kalgoorlie

CarbonRE is developing a Renewable Energy project near Southern Cross, located approximately 370 km East of Perth and 220 km west of Kalgoorlie.

The project is being created on a single landowner’s property, significantly reducing stakeholder coordination.

The project involves designing, constructing, financing and operating a hybrid renewable energy system comprising:

100 MW AC solar farm

100 MW wind farm

100 MW / 400 MWh lithium battery

16 km of 132 kV network connection line

The project includes approximately 16 km of 132 kV network connection line connecting to the Yilgarn Substation and other associated infrastructure.

The location has excellent solar and wind resources and is conveniently located adjacent to the first substation on the Western Power network west of Kalgoorlie.

Kalgoorlie has a long mining history with a firm reliance on diesel and gas for fuel/electricity.

The Project aims to provide green electricity to mining companies through power purchase agreements.

The site is located in the Shire of Yilgarn, where similar, smaller-scale projects have been supported with strong local support through the Shire’s Development Approval process.

Recent power outages in Kalgoorlie following severe storms have shown the network reliability for Kalgoorlie is low. The project increases the network reliability by putting a renewable energy resource closer to the Kalgoorlie load.
